How A Behaviour Analyst Can Help

  • Focuses on the individuals' strengths and motivation to assess and treat behaviour.

  • Helps to determine why the individual is having trouble demonstrating or learning a particular skill.

  • Investigates the purpose behind a challenging behaviour, from the individual’s point of view, and suggests appropriate alternatives which serve the same function. This is done through a functional behaviour assessment or analysis.

  • Recommends strategies to manage difficult behaviours which are causing stress and/or risk in the home or community.

  • Suggests changes in the environment to encourage optimal learning.

  • Provides education to parents and caregivers about applied behaviour analytic principles.

  • Coaches parents and caregivers about support for social skills, daily living skills, problem solving skills, leisure skills, communication, and self-regulation.

  • Recommends evidence-based teaching methods to help the individual learn new skills and behaviours.

  • Helps to manage anxiety and stress.

  • Provides guidance to monitor the effectiveness of the implementation of strategies and goal-directed outcomes using data collection.
